Monte Vista Elementary is currently participating in discussions to change its boundaries for the 2008 school year. The decision will be made by 12/4/07. A panel of 4 people from the community has been assembled to determine what changes are in the best interest of Monte Vista. Jones Meadows seems to be at the center of the discussions for change. Among the options being debated is removing Jones Meadows from Monte Vista boundaries and sending those school children to Elk Meadows Elementary. We have a representative from our neighborhood on the committee; however, his voice is one against 15 others who may not have our best interests in mind. We are interested in finding out how much support there is for various options to make sure we all have a voice in what happens to our neighborhood elementary school boundaries. If this is a topic you would like more information about or have an opinion to share, please comment. The next meeting being held pertaining to this issue is next Tuesday (10/2), so please respond promptly.

I have not been able to get out and meet new people in the neighborhood in about a year. A lot of people have moved in this past year. If you have had new families move into your neighborhood in the past year please tell them about the neighborhood blog (see address below) and the neighborhood e-mail list. Have them send me an e-mail and tell me where they live and I will add them to the list. I can also e-mail them information about the neighborhood.
Thanks for your help.
Cindy

Please be advised that “Domain Notification Central” is sending spam emails to registrants of domain names, which should be ignored and thrown away. The scam attempts to sell you a variant of your current domain(s) under the guise of preventing some elusive legal action against your domain name. This company is currently being sued by legitimate registrars, but they continue to solicit payments through deceptive emails. Below is a sample email for review.
This company’s website contains a link to Check Your Domain. DO NOT USE THIS LINK! This is a second layer scam to collect additional domain names for likely vulnerable owners, as evidenced to them once you use it. If you have any questions about your domain name status, possible “infractions,” or the chance of unwanted transfers… contact your current registrar and ask them yourself.

Just a comment on the recent garage break-ins. Our garage was opened remotely Monday after midnight but we ran out and stopped it half way up. We did not find any people but did hear a vehicle drive away from probably Logan Canyon. (We are on Millville St.) Our neighbor’s garage was also opened remotely a few weeks ago, but they ran out and actually chased a suspect. We are being told that old garage door openers had rolling codes of thousands of numbers (frequencies?), but new openers have many fewer frequencies making it easier to “break the code”. So my theory is that thieves are targeting new subdivisions because we all have new openers and the builders tend to use mainly the same brands of openers. It leads me to think that most of us are not leaving our doors open, but the criminals open them and leave them open. I remember a few years ago, a friend told us that cars were being stolen out of garages and we couldn’t figure out how that could happen! Anyway, we have discovered our garage door opener has a lock key that we can push and lock the doors from being opened by remote. It’s been there forever but we never needed it and never noticed it. We use it now and the door from our garage into our house is locked also! Hope this is of some use to someone! John and Dale Evans

I just wanted to notify everyone that our (Justin and Maquel McQuarrie) house was robbed on the night of Friday, July 13, 2007. We live in Maughan Circle (just off of Willow Valley). We were currently out of town and had our wood floors refinished, so we had friends crack windows for ventilation. We returned on Saturday night and it took us 30 minutes to realize we had been robbed. They were very clean and meticulous about what was taken. Electronics mostly, but also a handgun, children’s wallets and toys, and any loose cash. Total lost was about $7000. We originally suspected the workers from our wood floors, but the South Jordan detectives gave them polygraph tests which they all passed easily. The detective told me that there is a group of teens from a less fortunate area who are casing neighborhoods in South Jordan. They don’t “break” in. They look for out-of-towners, open garages, open windows, and no lights. We hope to catch these ones as they start pawning our belongings. However, the detective told me to warn all my neighbors to keep your garages shut, your windows closed, and your doors locked day and night. There have been robberies from garages mid-day. Also, keep outdoor lights on at night. We have lights by our doors, but my Justin is putting in motion-activated lights in the backyard this week.

Today, each of us received a “Neighborhood Enhancement Program” flyer taped to our front doors advertising “Night Vision Address Numbers”. To my knowledge, the City of South Jordan does not support this business. Although after reading the flyer, you might assume they do. I work for the City of Taylorsville. These same flyers were distributed in Taylorsville. A check on the Department of Commerce web site revealed the person doing this work in Taylorsville did not have a business license. If you choose to have this service performed, please demand the person collecting your money show you a valid business license.
Thanks,
Mickey Pahl

Hello Neighbors,
Today I received the attached letter from Ricky Horst, South Jordan City Manager. This is in response to a letter I wrote to Mayor Money (with a copy to Ricky Horst) regarding the lack of maintenance to the retention ponds in our neighborhood.
This answers some of my questions and I hope it helps answer some of yours.

SB-436 corrects a serious problem for citizens who chose to protect themselves in the face of attack by violent criminals.
This bill REMOVES the “duty to retreat” in the face of attack; it creates the presumption that an attacker or intruder intends to do great bodily harm and therefore force, including deadly force, may be used to protect yourself, your family and others in the face of attack; it prohibits prosecution for defending that which you have a right to defend and prohibits civil lawsuits by criminals or relatives of criminals when criminals are injured or killed while attacking law-abiding people. Does anyone have an update on the future of our lovely weed/swamp pond on 3200 and 10950???
Also, I’m pretty certain that I’m not the only one who is completely disgusted with the condition of the land variance along 3200. What is going on there?
