Beware Qwest Phone And Internet Services!

Monday, April 7th, 2008

We recently switched to Comcast from Qwest for both phone and Internet access services, only to discover some billing issues that Qwest sneaks into their agreements. Hopefully this information will help others beware the same situation. Our bottom line is that Qwest should be avoided and that Comcast has proven to be a great company. (more…)

Pest Control Problems

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Hello Neighbors,

Shortly after we moved into our home we contracted with Mountain West Pest Control. They were canvassing our neighborhood and said several of our neighbors had signed up and offered us a good deal since they would be working in our neighborhood. We stayed with them for five years and thought they did a good job - we were very happy with their service and communication. (more…)

Thought Competition And Academia

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

“The self-esteem movement’s latest dumb idea is to ban writing and math contests in our schools.”

An interesting article about how “academia” often support athletes in competition, but not the literate or intelligentsia, as it might create discomfort. But when they leave home and school to find work, what else will there be aside individual competition to excel and be winners?

Peterson Is “Promising” More “Dedicated Senior Housing” West Jordan this time…

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

Dear Neighbors:

We just found this article in the Salt Lake Tribune, Friday, November 2, 2007.  Looks like Peterson is promising more “dedicated….. senior housing” but in West Jordan this time.  These guys are really something else.

I really appreciate everyone’s comments about Wal-mart.  I don’t think one good thing has been said about them.  I just don’t know what to do about it at this time.  If we decide to fight it it will take lots and lots of work - are we ready?  I called the City and asked when the next Council meeting is and they told me November 20th.  It might be a good meeting to attend. Utahns Can Vote for School Vouchers Choice Tuesday

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Next Tuesday, Utah voters go to the polls to decide if their state will become the first in the nation to offer school vouchers statewide. Referendum 1 would make all public-school kids eligible for vouchers worth from $500 to $3,000 a year, depending on family income. Parents could then use the vouchers to send their children to private schools.

What a great idea. Finally, parents will have choices that wealthy parents have always had. The resulting competition would create better private schools and even improve the government schools. (more…)

Super Walmart in Jones Meadows

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Hi neighbors,

One of our neighbors on the west side of our sub-division just informed me that a Super WalMart is going to be built on th north side of Costco (North side of 104th South).  There will be a City Council meeting about this on October 23rd (Tuesday) at 6:30 at City Hall.  If you are concerned about this or other buildings going up to the west of us you need to let the city know.  Our neighbor also said that there will be a self storage building next to Costco and then more stores, office buildings, an apartment complex etc.  The city has big plans for businesses all the way down the street to the District.

If you have heard more about these plans please let us know so we can pass information on to our neighbors.  If you are concerned - talk to the city council or go to their meeting.

Do you have new neighbors?

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I have not been able to get out and meet new people in the neighborhood in about a year.  A lot of people have moved in this past year.  If you have had new families move into your neighborhood in the past year please tell them about the neighborhood blog (see address below) and the neighborhood e-mail list.  Have them send me an e-mail and tell me where they live and I will add them to the list.  I can also e-mail them information about the neighborhood.

Thanks for your help.

Night Vision Address Numbers Caveat

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Today, each of us received a “Neighborhood Enhancement Program” flyer taped to our front doors advertising “Night Vision Address Numbers”. To my knowledge, the City of South Jordan does not support this business. Although after reading the flyer, you might assume they do. I work for the City of Taylorsville. These same flyers were distributed in Taylorsville. A check on the Department of Commerce web site revealed the person doing this work in Taylorsville did not have a business license. If you choose to have this service performed, please demand the person collecting your money show you a valid business license.

Thanks,
Mickey Pahl
