Vehicle Vandals In Jones Meadows

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

We also had an incident. After that last BIG snow storm we decided we needed to dig our car out from in front of our house. The plows had completely snow blocked it from both directions. After a friendly neighbor helped us get it out we had it parked in the driveway to wipe off the excess snow before pulling into the garage. As I was getting into the drivers side door I noticed the rear passenger window behind the driver (the one that WAS facing the street) was completely shattered (still intact). Inspecting it more I discovered the damage had occurred from 4 small bullet holes. We called out an officer and filed a report knowing they couldn’t do anything we just wanted this neighborhood to have it documented. Our car had been out there ‘Snowed In’ for about a week, so we have no idea when it occurred. Our car had nothing in it, so we don’t feel this was someone trying to break into it. Please keep all eyes open and KNOW where your kids are! (our incident looked more like mischievousness).

ps yep this is the same car that had the ‘egging’ incident this last summer

Thieves Scoping Cars & Garages In Jones Meadows

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

An incident happened in our neighborhood last night that all should be aware of.

My wife and I returned from vacation. I left the garage door open while I walked across the street to a neighbors to retrieve our mail that they collected for us while away. I was inside their home for less than three minutes. As I stepped outside and began to cross their yard I spotted someone in my garage looking in the car and out. I first thought it was my wife coming back out to get something she left in the car. As I got closer, I realized it was not my wife because it was a man with crew cut hair. (more…)

Robberies

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Just a comment on the recent garage break-ins. Our garage was opened remotely Monday after midnight but we ran out and stopped it half way up. We did not find any people but did hear a vehicle drive away from probably Logan Canyon. (We are on Millville St.) Our neighbor’s garage was also opened remotely a few weeks ago, but they ran out and actually chased a suspect. We are being told that old garage door openers had rolling codes of thousands of numbers (frequencies?), but new openers have many fewer frequencies making it easier to “break the code”. So my theory is that thieves are targeting new subdivisions because we all have new openers and the builders tend to use mainly the same brands of openers. It leads me to think that most of us are not leaving our doors open, but the criminals open them and leave them open. I remember a few years ago, a friend told us that cars were being stolen out of garages and we couldn’t figure out how that could happen! Anyway, we have discovered our garage door opener has a lock key that we can push and lock the doors from being opened by remote. It’s been there forever but we never needed it and never noticed it. We use it now and the door from our garage into our house is locked also! Hope this is of some use to someone! John and Dale Evans

Robbery in Jones Meadows

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

I just wanted to notify everyone that our (Justin and Maquel McQuarrie) house was robbed on the night of Friday, July 13, 2007. We live in Maughan Circle (just off of Willow Valley). We were currently out of town and had our wood floors refinished, so we had friends crack windows for ventilation. We returned on Saturday night and it took us 30 minutes to realize we had been robbed. They were very clean and meticulous about what was taken. Electronics mostly, but also a handgun, children’s wallets and toys, and any loose cash. Total lost was about $7000. We originally suspected the workers from our wood floors, but the South Jordan detectives gave them polygraph tests which they all passed easily. The detective told me that there is a group of teens from a less fortunate area who are casing neighborhoods in South Jordan. They don’t “break” in. They look for out-of-towners, open garages, open windows, and no lights. We hope to catch these ones as they start pawning our belongings. However, the detective told me to warn all my neighbors to keep your garages shut, your windows closed, and your doors locked day and night. There have been robberies from garages mid-day. Also, keep outdoor lights on at night. We have lights by our doors, but my Justin is putting in motion-activated lights in the backyard this week.

The Castle Doctrine: To Protect Your Property

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

SB-436 corrects a serious problem for citizens who chose to protect themselves in the face of attack by violent criminals.

This bill REMOVES the “duty to retreat” in the face of attack; it creates the presumption that an attacker or intruder intends to do great bodily harm and therefore force, including deadly force, may be used to protect yourself, your family and others in the face of attack; it prohibits prosecution for defending that which you have a right to defend and prohibits civil lawsuits by criminals or relatives of criminals when criminals are injured or killed while attacking law-abiding people. Our Car Was Egged At Night

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Tuesday night we had our car parked on the road in front of our house and it was egged several times. Please keep your eyes out for ANY night activity. We were up until 2:00am that night with lights on in our house, so it probably happened after that. 10814 S willow valley rd. Tyler and Karie Cornell

Laptop Stolen From Car In Local Garage

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Just so the neighborhood knows, someone got into our garage at 10583 S 3210 West and stole a laptop computer from one of our vehicles. We don’t know if we inadvertently left our garage door open, or it was compromised. We would like to offer a reward for it’s return, but aren’t sure how to go about it. The incident has been reported to the South Jordan Police Department. The burglary occurred between 10:00 P.M. Monday night and 7:00 A.M. Tuesday morning. If anyone saw anything, we’d be happy to hear about it.

WaMu Customers Beware of Phishing Emails

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

A new blast of “phishing” emails have been sent to owners of Washington Mutual (WaMu) Business Account owners, likely others too. The email subject line is “WAMU corporate customer cervice: official information!” and the body content is included below. This is not being sent by WaMu, but by hackers looking to get your login information. Note the word “cervice” is misspelled, and subjects might arrive with various spellings.

The link in the email appears to be http://treasury-84332232.wamu.com/ibswamu/cmserver/base/default/do.cfm

Prowler “Prowler” In Jones Meadows

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

I just found out today that Christi and Greg Young (Bear RiverRoad) had a prowler in their garage the other night. It was about 2 a.m. and they had accidentally left it open. Annie Schoenfeld heard the car and before Rodger could get outside they ran off. They don’t think anything is missing, but I thought it would be another reinforcement to try to remember to close the garages at night. Just thought I’d let you know. Thanx!!

Backyard Intruder Peeping Perv

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

On April 19 around 11:30 PM by the corner of Logan Canyon Road and Bear Valley Road, we had a backyard intruder. I took the dog out to the backyard for the evening business and he went nuts. A guy scrambled out of the yard over the fence on the dark side of the house. He had moved a patio chair across the yard and had been standing on it trying to look into the bathroom window where my wife was taking a shower. Due to the increasing number of local thefts and break-ins, I must assume this may have been a perverted backyard prowler who saw an opportunity, but we don’t know for sure. We’d hate to think that someone is doing this habitually.
