Director of Development, KUED (Fund Raising):  Job number: 32703

Requirements:  A Bachelor’s degree in business, communication, public relations, or related field or equivalency required.  Six years of related experience required that includes an established record of successful fund-raising for non-profit entities and upper-level management experience.  Management experience includes financial/budget oversight, supervision, strategic planning, creating and implementing departmental programs, and evaluating the effectiveness of departmental systems and programs, particularly as it relates to donor relationships and solicitations.  The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to enthusiastically promote KUED to donors, viewers, community leaders and the general public. Demonstrated writing, analytical, verbal, organizational and human relations skills are critical.  Presentation and public speaking experience required. The successful candidate must be able to collaborate and develop partnerships with volunteers, KUED board members, vendors, other PBS stations and community and corporate leaders.

Preferences:  Ten years of related fund raising and management experience preferred.  Public broadcasting experience helpful. Knowledge of media trends, broadcasting, audience data and demographics  is preferred.  Other preferences: local fundraising experience and familiarity with our communities and culture.  Familiarity with fundraising databases is helpful.  Experience in the various areas of development such as corporate, foundation, major gifts, capital campaigns, membership and special events strongly preferred.

Duties
·         Cultivates relationships with committed and potential donors, develops solicitation strategies and successfully secures donations on behalf of KUED.
·         Plans strategies and goals for all of KUED’s fund-raising and donor activities, including membership, program underwriting, corporate gift-giving, campaigns, planned giving, major gifts, grant acquisitions, and special events.  Activities may include directing and preparing federal grant applications.
·         Sets departmental policies and procedures for meeting goals.
·         Plans and administers the departmental budget.
·         Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff.
·         Prepares and analyzes market research to aid in fund-raising in cooperation with contract researchers and PBS.
·         Meets with a variety of local, regional and national public broadcasting and advisory committees to coordinate fund-raising efforts and keep informed of community needs and industry trends.
·         May appear on-air as part of fund-raising activities.
·         Works closely with Production, Programming and Creative Services department personnel to plan, coordinate, and implement effective on-air drives, to raise money for local programs, and community outreach.
·         Oversees periodic campaigns to generate endowment, equipment and program funding for KUED, in the amount of $5,000,000 or more.
·          Coordinates with KUEN and Utah Education Network staff to discuss funding opportunities and priorities.
·         Duties may require generating revenue from intellectual properties created by KUED including KUED local productions and related products.
·         Works with the KUED General Manger to coordinate activities with the KUED Advisory Board, attending Executive Committee and Board meetings.
·         Acts as KUED’s interface with the campus Central Development office.
·         Performs other duties as shall be assigned by the KUED General Manager.
Work schedule: regular hours with evenings and weekends during fund drives and special events.
