Online Greeting Cards Phishing Scam

A new phishing website has sprung up. It doesn’t look to retrieve your bank or other login information. It is designed to verify if your email is used, to start sending you a LOT of spam email. The”eCard Number” they supply is associated with your email address. If you click the link, it tells them your email is valid and to be used for future spam, since you have verified that you receive email at that address.

Note that the link uses an IP Address NOT a Web Address with the name they claim. If this were a real greetings email from 123greetings.com, the address to click would have their name in it. These scams are being sent from all f the notable greeting card and similar website, so look for the trend.

Do not reply to their email, do not click the link, and don’t bother tracking them down. The best method of preventing these emails from getting to your email browser is to create a filter for some of the body text specific to this scam, like the IP Address (82.40.22.139).
